This cover I did of Harry Nilsson’s gorgeous composition, “He Needs Me,” was featured prominently in “Punch-Drunk Love” and of course, was written for the movie “Popeye.”  It has just been recorded exactly as I played it live this past weekend at the Summer Scrambler show in DeKalb, IL.  To hear or download more one-take covers I recorded, written by these two dudes, click below:

There’s always been a lot to say about how I look.  I grew up eating way too much once I hit puberty, and I talked my way out of gym class for several years.  Throughout high school, I was one of two dudes in my grade, who were cursed at a young age with “man boobs.”  So showering for gym class felt like the worst punishment either of us could ever endure.  Swimming, especially, was equally painful, because the actual pool combined both the boys gym class, and girls gym class!  So I was consistently ridiculed for my imperfections.   After high school, I cut out the fast food & soda, and focused on exercising, losing 80 pounds.  I’ve since gained 20 of those back again, much to my chagrin.  However, I’m back at the gym once again.  Even after losing all that weight, I struggled with a lot of insecurities because I never felt good-looking or confident enough, even after being in a few relationships.  Taking off my shirt is still a chore, but I’m not ashamed of who I am on the inside, or the fact that I’m imperfect.  I know I’ve got a beautiful face, with a flawed body, but I have lots of musical talent, and a selfless, empathic personality that certainly feels a lot more important to possess than perfect abs or pectorals.  Once I find the right person to settle down with, I can only hope she focuses on the great qualities, and can overlook bodily abnormalities.  “Abnormal” isn’t bad, it’s just different.  Eventually, I can show it all off here :)  For now, I like to show off pictures where I can look relatively confident, even if I’m plainly posing.

Chapter 2 in the learning-to-be-more-comfortable-with-who-I-am online novella I’m creating :)  Thanks for all the likes on FYCG
